How Do I Set up an Offer So Only New Users Have Access To It?

There may be times when you want to create an offer that's only available to brand new readers who have never had a subscription before. Sometimes these are called "introductory plans" or "introductory offers". syncAccess includes functionality that allows you to configure plans so that only users who have no plans can purchase them.

Admin Plan Maintenance

You would begin by updating the plan that you wish to configure in the Administrative Console's Plan Maintenance option. In the Subscriber Plan Purchase Requirements section, check the option that reads "The subscriber must have no plans in order to purchase this plan"

Note that a plan must be marked as "Active" in order to set it's Subscriber Plan Purchase Requirements

Purchasing a Plan

During the purchase process, if a user who has previously purchased a subscription attempts to purchase a plan that is configured in this way, she will see an error message similar to the following at the top of the purchase page.

Clicking Select a Different Offer will take the user to the default offers page where she can select another offer for purchase.

Notes

An important consideration when configuring your system for this sort of "introductory offer": because the Select a Different Offer button will take the user back to the Offers page that has been configured as the system default, it's important that you do not include an "introductory offer" on the Default Offers page. Otherwise, the user could get stuck in a cycle where they can select a plan that they are ineligible for.
